A BIG thank you to everyone who physically took part in the 2014 Sunflower Foundation Wellness Walk.
As a charity partner of the Wellness Walk, RichmondPRA had the opportunity to organise our very first peer-to-peer fundraising campaign. Our Superheroes theme encouraged people to release their inner superhero by strutting their best, most colourful getups on the day in support of our young people’s programs.
The Wellness Walk took place on Sunday the 16th November on the Harbour Bridge and attracted a total of over 500 registered walkers, with 70 of these walkers selecting RichmondPRA as their charity of choice. It was a fantastic day and the whole crowd shared an intense team spirit.
Team RichmondPRA made a big impact straight away, as many of our walkers had gone all-out with their costumes. Our team consisted of a diverse range of crime-fighting superstars such as The Incredible Hulk, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Banana Boy, Sailor Moon, Spiderman, Batman, Superwoman, Catwoman, Bat Girl and Iron Man, just to name a few. It was no surprise that every single supervillain chose to stay well out of Sydney and sulk in their lairs instead…
Team RichmondPRA received the following glowing acknowledgement from the organisers of the event:
“Thank you so much for participating in the Wellness Walk on Sunday. Your team certainly stood out and raised the energy with their great costumes. Brilliant! Your team certainly added to the feeling of camaraderie and connectedness in the sector and amongst consumers and carers.”
The entire event raised over $25,000 for 5 mental health charities: Sunflower Foundation, Pioneer Clubhouse, RichmondPRA, ARAFMI NSW and the Schizophrenia Research Institute. RichmondPRA raised a total of $5,210 for our young people’s programs.
For our very first fundraising campaign it was a great result. The experience we received through our involvement was invaluable and will assist us to grow our fundraising efforts in the future.
A special thank you goes out to Via IP Wholesale, Pullman Sydney Olympic Park, WatervieW and Chloe Frost for their generous prize donations in support of our Wellness Walk Superheroes campaign. We would also like to congratulate the following prize winners. Some of them can be seen pictured with our own “Fearless Leader”, CEO Pam Rutledge.
Elizabeth (bottom right, dressed in red, white and blue as Sailor Moon), was the top fund-raiser of the day. For her efforts, Elizabeth received an iPad.
1st Prize for Best Dressed was Robert (top right with Pam) as The Incredible Hulk, and he scored an iPhone 5.
2nd Prize for Best Dressed was Silvia (bottom right in black) as Catwoman, and she earned a Pullman Accommodation Voucher.
Best Dressed 3rd Prize went to Kevin (left) as Banana Boy, and he got a WatervieW High Tea Voucher. Elizabeth, Silvia and Kevin are all from YPOP (Young People’s Outreach Program). Obviously a special, concerted effort there!
Best Dressed 4th Prize was Mark the Convict, who you can see behind Hulk’s left arm in the main picture (top left). He was awarded a Bouquet of Superhero Cake Pops.
